Rhythm is a basic skill for all the music we play. I learned to play drums through the coach training at American Guitar Academy. I have had a lot of great students that went through all the beats in that curriculum. I believe the most valuable thing I brought was my innate sense of rhythm inspired significantly by my love of jazz. We focus on the basics until they are strong and then we break the rules. My favorite time signature is 5/4. You can count it and read it and think about it all day long. Ultimately, you have to feel it.
